Nison-in Temple
二尊院
Named for its two principal Buddha statues (Shakyamuni and Amitabha), this Tendai temple features a magnificent maple-lined approach path called "Momiji no Baba" (Maple Horse Track) that creates a tunnel of color in autumn. Emperor Saga founded it in 841 AD.

Best Time to Visit
Late November for the Momiji no Baba (Maple Horse Track) approach at peak color. The wide path lined on both sides with towering maples is unforgettable. Early morning for fewer visitors.
