天龍寺

UNESCO World Heritage Zen temple in Arashiyama built 1339 by Shogun Ashikaga Takauji to honor Emperor Go-Daigo. Spectacular landscape garden designed by Muso Soseki with "borrowed scenery" of Arashiyama mountains. North gate provides direct access to famous Arashiyama Bamboo Grove.

Visit: 1 hour (add 2-3 hours for full Arashiyama area including Bamboo Grove, Togetsukyo Bridge)
Entrance: 500 yen garden only, 800 yen including temple buildings (Hatto, Hojo)
Hours: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM (closes 5:30 PM Oct 21-Mar 20)
