Fushimi Inari-Taisha Shrine

The most iconic shrine in Japan with over 10,000 vermilion torii gates forming tunnels up Mount Inari. Head shrine of 30,000 Inari shrines nationwide. Founded 711 AD. Dedicated to Inari, Shinto god of rice, sake, prosperity, and foxes as messengers.

Visit: 2-3 hours for full summit hike (4km), 1 hour for lower shrine area only, 45 minutes for just Senbon Torii section
Entrance: Free admission (donations welcome)
Hours: Open 24 hours (mountain trails accessible dawn to dusk for safety)

Best Time to Visit

Early morning 6-7 AM for mystical atmosphere and no crowds. Avoid midday 10 AM-3 PM. Evening also peaceful. Stunning year-round.
