UNESCO World Heritage Shinto shrine, officially named Kamo-wake-ikazuchi Shrine. One of Japan's oldest shrines (founded 678). Features distinctive white sand cones (tatesuna) symbolizing sacred mountains. Beautiful stream (Nara-no-Ogawa) flows through grounds. Endpoint of Aoi Matsuri festival.

Visit: 45 minutes to 1 hour
Entrance: Free (special gardens 500 yen when open)
Hours: 5:30 AM - 5:00 PM (no strict closing, buildings close 5 PM)
