Ryozen Kannon Temple
霊山観音
Home to a massive 24-meter (80-foot) seated Kannon (Goddess of Mercy) statue visible from across Higashiyama district. Built in 1955 as a memorial to unknown soldiers of WWII. Visitors can enter the base of the statue to a memorial hall with tablets for the war dead.

Best Time to Visit
Any time - the giant statue is impressive year-round. Morning for clearest views of the statue. Less crowded than neighboring temples. Combine with Kodai-ji and Kiyomizu-dera visits.
